This campaign resulted from the injustice felt by Frost over the Will of William Foster, over which he believed himself to be badly treated by Prothero and left with an unfair debt.</p> <p class="bodytext">The Trial between Thomas Protheroe, Attorney at Law, and John Frost, published in two parts in 1822, is Frost s own account of his trial for libel as brought by Thomas Protheroe at the King s Bench in March 1822. Critical of the legal advice he received during the trial, Frost used these pamphlets as a forum to defend his accusations against Protheroe and to present the statements of his four witnesses, who themselves were not called at the trial.</p> <p class="bodytext">This conflict with Thomas Prothero played an important part in John Frost's development as a radical, a process that would eventually lead to his being a key figure in the Chartist Rising of 1839. The pamphlets he produced in 1821 and 1822 give a clear insight into his political viewpoint at this critical juncture.</p> </div > <!-- grey footer --> <div id="ftrup"> <div class="footertext"> |Telephone: (01633) 656656 | Minicom: (01633) 656657 | Email: <a href="mailto:central.library@newport.gov.uk" class="footeremail">central.library@newport.gov.uk</a>| </div> </div> <!-- green footer --> <div id="ftrlo"></div> <div class="navbody"></div> <!-- disclaimer footer --> <!-- <div id="ftr_disclaimer"> <p class="disclaimer">This page conforms to the following technology and accessibility standards: <a href="http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=referer"><img src="http://www.w3.org/Icons/valid-xhtml10" alt="Valid XHTML 1.0!" height="31" width="88" border="0" /></a> <img src="./images/white_spacer.gif" alt="spacer image (formatting)" /><a href="http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/"><img style="border:0;width:88px;height:31px" src="http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/images/vcss" alt="Valid CSS!" /></a> <img src="./images/white_spacer.gif" alt="spacer image (formatting)" /><a href="http://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG1AAA-Conformance" title="Explanation of Level Triple-A Conformance"><img src="http://www.w3.org/WAI/wcag1AAA" alt="Level Triple-A conformance icon, W3C-WAI Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0" height="32" width="88" border="0" /></a> <img src="./images/white_spacer.gif" alt="spacer image (formatting)" /><a href="http://bobby.watchfire.com/" title="Bobby's Home Page"><img src="http://bobby.watchfire.com/bobby/html/en/images/approved_aaa.gif" alt="Bobby WorldWide Approved AAA" width="88" height="31" border="0" /></a> <br /> We are fully committed to the continual improvement of accessibility to the LION service. <a href="./accessibilityinfo.html" title="Read about the accessibility features of LION" class="footerlink">Accessibility information</a>. <a href="./browserinfo.html" title="Read about the accessibility features of LION" class="footerlink">Browser compatibility information</a>. <br />All images are copyright &copy; and registered trademarks &reg; of the prospective companies.</p> </div> --> </body> </html>
